Social Distancing Activities: Fishing

Fishing? Yes! This summer I caught my first 2 pound small mouth bass, and I was hooked!

I never understand fishing, but after spending hours on the dock. I noticed how peaceful, engaging, and the bond with myself that was created after each experience. With everything going on right now, I found a comfort in being forced to focus. It allowed me to take my mind off any internal conflict and stress, kind of similar to the effects of meditation.

Also, it is a great activity to do with friends or family. It kind of forces you to disconnect and truly be present.

BENEFITS OF FISHING

  • Gives you opportunity to soak up that that Vitamin D

  • Fishing helps to reduce anxiety, fight off depression, and promote relaxation

  • Helps develop problem-solving and analytical skills, improving your cognitive function and creative thinking

  • Studies have shown that fishing lowers your cortisol levels (otherwise known as the stress hormone). This positive effect can last for as long as three weeks after a fishing trip. Fishing has even been used to help people who have experienced trauma or suffer from PTSD
